Emily Davidson is not a name most people associate with the suffrage
moment but she played a very important role by raising a lot of publicity
for the cause. In 1913 she threw herself in front of the King's horse at
the Derby and was killed. This drew a lot of criticism and praise for the
cause but most importantly people realised how serious the suffragists
were and what they were willing to do to acheive equality.
